Meet some of the outstanding professors who teach our students!

Since 1994, the ASU Parents Association has recognized teaching excellence through its Professor of the Year Award. Each year, the Association asks students, staff and other faculty to nominate ASU professors who “best exemplify a passion for teaching and who excel in both undergraduate teaching and in their area of research and/or creative activity.”

This podcast features a conversation with Dr. James Blasingame, associate professor of English Education in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the 2008 ASU Parents Association Professor of the Year and 29 professors who received nominations.

Arizona State University offers many opportunities for your student to get involved in campus life

The ASU experience provides endless opportunities for students. Research indicates that involved students are more likely to graduate at greater rates, perform better academically and be more satisfied with their educational experience, than students who are not involved.  Additionally, participation in a club or activity will help to develop your student’s leadership, teamwork and communication skills, provides for greater interaction with faculty and staff and will help them acclimate to their new environment faster!

ASU encourages your student to get involved and play an active role in their community. ASU has over 500 university registered student organizations that have a variety of different interests including academic, fraternity & sorority, social, political, athletic and religious. Additionally, your student may choose to get involved in Student Government, Programming & Activities Board, Canon Leadership Program, Community Service or a Student Coalition.

To find out more about involvement opportunities at Arizona State University, please have your student visit: www.asu.edu/mu/sdic or call the Sun Devil Involvement Center at 480.965.2255.

A MESSAGE FROM CAMPUS HEALTH SERVICE (CHS)

Regarding Vaccinations

Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) Vaccination Requirement

Has your student met the MMR requirement? Students are required to provide documentation that they have had two measles vaccinations (one of which must be dated after 1979), or a lab test showing proof of immunity to the measles (rubeola) prior to registering for classes at ASU. If you have any questions, please visit our website at: www.asu.edu/studentaffairs/health/newstudent.html. Phone numbers for each ASU Health Service location are listed below.

Meningococcal vaccination – Strongly Recommended

Campus Health Service (CHS) along with the Centers for Disease Control’s group on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has recommended this vaccination for all freshmen living in residence halls. Students living in residence halls are 5X more likely to contract this rare but deadly disease than 18-23 year olds not in college. For more information about meningococcal meningitis visit: www.cdc.gov.

The MMR and Meningococcal Meningitis vaccinations are available at all ASU Health Service locations. To schedule an appointment for your student to receive these vaccinations, please call the appropriate number below. There are harges associated with these vaccinations.
