MOVE IN RECYCLING PROGRAM Monday, July 12, 2010
University Housing and The UPS Stores @ ASU are teaming up to co-ordinate a move-in recycling program. The great amounts of boxes, styrofoam, and packing peanuts that are brought to the campus during move-in will be recycled in order to reduce landfill waste and to introduce the students to ASU's commitment of sustain...ablity. The students will take part in this by helping to bring their materials to designated recycling locations at their residence halls. By having the students sort their materials and putting them in the appropriate areas, this will greatly assist us. The facebook users can become a fan of The UPS Store @ ASU, or go to http://www.asu.edu/studentaffairs/reslife/upsstore.htm to find out more information about moving to the campus and how to ship their belongings here, how their student's mail services work, employment at The UPS Store @ ASU, and recycling. STUDENTS: SIGN UP FOR ASU ALERT, THE UNIVERSITY'S EMERGENCY TEXT-MESSAGING SYSTEM Monday, August 17, 2009
Sending a child to college can be a difficult time of separation for parents.
One way that parents and guardians can encourage safety is to ask students to sign up for ASU Alert, the university’s text-messaging system.
If an emergency occurs at Arizona State University, students who subscribe to the university’s emergency text-message alert system can find out about the incident. Text messages that are sent in case of an emergency spell out specific safety information or instructions, enabling individuals to take appropriate action if needed.
“The safety and security of students, faculty and staff is the highest priority at ASU,” says Morgan R. Olsen, ASU’s Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer. “It’s vitally important for students to sign up for the emergency text-message alert system so they can receive valuable information during an emergency.”
The ASU Alert: Emergency Text Service system is an opt-in service that is used only in the case of a major emergency on one of ASU’s campuses or in the immediate vicinity. To sign up for the emergency text message alert system, go to www.asu.edu/alert. An ASURITE ID and password is needed to sign up. There is also an ASU Alert Twitter feed that members of the university community can follow at http://twitter.com/asualert.
ASU utilizes e2Campus, the provider of ASU’s emergency text-messaging alert service that is used by other schools across the nation. Text message charges may apply depending on individual cell phone plans.
Depending on the nature of the emergency, text messaging may be utilized in conjunction with other communication tools, such as ASU Police crime alerts, media alerts, ASU and myASU Web pages, campus televisions, reverse 911 calls, in-person contact and ASU’s emergency information hotline.
For a comprehensive look at ASU’s emergency plans, go to the university’s Web site at www.asu.edu/emergency. Read More |
